SCBWI Artober 2025 - KidLitArt

Wow, it's November already. Before we get too far into this month, I thought it would be fun to share the #kidlitart I created during the #SCBWIArtober2025 challenge in October. I had a ton of fun taking a few of the prompts and playing with the new brushes in Procreate created by Kyle Webster. These were great art therapy as well.

children's book art of a boy and a girl picking squash in a garden
Prompt: Squash
Kidlitart of a scared monster hiding behind the covers in the dark with a flower nightlight glowing next to him. Wait, there are eyes at the foot of the bed in the dark
Prompt: Nightlight
Children's book style art with three kids running from a phantom whipped up out of the fog with a row of brownstones behind them with jack-o-lanterns on a stoop.
Prompt: Phantom
In a children's book style of art three kids and a little brown dog stand together in a hallway with only a candle against the dark. Something is standing the dark -- something big. All we can see are long legs and big claws. Eek!
Prompt: Candle
Children's book style art, kidlitart, with a blue splatter and drip background and a girl in purple overalls and goggles carving with hammer and chisel an ice dragon.
Prompt: Carve
A humorous children's book style illustration of man and a woman dancing together at a masquerade ball holding masks up to their faces. They are both wearing shades of pink against a purple background with silhouettes of dancers behind them.
Prompt: Mask (cartoony)

The next one, I had two visions when thinking about the prompt, Mask.

Do you have a preference?

Painterly art of a couple dancing together both wearing black masks like at a masquerade party. The woman is wearing a yellow dress with a flowing wide skirt and the man is sport a dashing black tuxedo which almost blends into the maroon splattery background with spotlights in swirly and dot patterns.
Prompt: Mask (painterly)

The last one I chose to interpret was Pie, because any day you can have pie is a good day! And this leads nicely into the month of Thanksgiving and Pie!

Children's book art art two kids hiding behind the bushes outside the windows watching a dragon sniff a pie in the window cooling.
Prompt: Pie

Since I was finishing the illustrations for Carlos Crosses the Border written by Ronnie Sidney II, LCSW, a new book release for the 10th Anniversary of Nelson Beats the Odds (another post coming soon about this), I didn't do all the prompts, but I had fun with the ones I did.

Thank you for sharing my creative journey with me!
